Domestic Replacement/Troubleshooting Chery Recalls Tiggo and A3 in Australia

On August 15, Chery announced the recall of certain batches of Tiggo and A3 products from the Australian market due to the non-compliant use of asbestos materials. The recall involved a total of 2,445 products. For the domestic market, Chery said that since July, the relevant parts and components for sales of models in China have been replaced, and follow-up inspections have also been carried out and gradually replaced.

It is reported that the reason for this recall is because the batch of Tiggo, A3 right rudder exhaust manifold gaskets and intake manifold pieces contain traces of asbestos that Australian law is prohibited from using due to environmental protection requirements. material.

It is understood that asbestos material is a commonly used raw material, and asbestos materials will only produce substances harmful to the human body in the event of friction. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) also pointed out that the asbestos materials detected were applied to engine and exhaust system gaskets, and the vehicle would not pose any risk to the driver during use. At present, only environmental protection laws and regulations in developed countries such as Europe and the United States have imposed stricter standards on the use of asbestos materials and have been completely banned from use. In most automobile regulations in most countries (including China), only the braking system does not allow the use of asbestos-containing components.

Chery claimed that the recall was caused by an error in the part number in the domestic production, which led to the mis-distribution of the logistics link, which resulted in accidental loading on the batch of products sold in Australia, resulting in the batch of products not complying with local legal requirements. . Chery will seriously summarize the problems that have arisen at the same time. At the same time, it will also investigate similar situations of products exported to other countries. If similar problems are found, the company will decide whether to handle the recall according to the relevant local laws.

For the domestic market, Chery further stated that although China’s laws and regulations do not impose requirements, Chery’s decision is to unify the domestic and foreign markets. Since July, relevant parts and components for sales of models in China have been replaced, and follow-up inspections have also been carried out. Replace gradually.
