NMP solvent recovery device in exhaust gas of lithium ion battery manufacturing engineering

Abstract: This article mainly introduces the latest NMP recycling device. Atmospheric Society has been incorporating NMP recovery devices since 1995. Recently, the new system invented is different from the traditional cooling condensation method. It can not only recover 99% of high-concentration NMP but also use only one NMP recovery device. It is possible to handle the exhaust at the same time.

1. Previous

Recently, the demand for high-power, high-energy-density lithium ion secondary batteries for automobiles and compact power supply has exploded. The NMP solvent (N methyl 2 pyrrolidone), which is widely used and expensive in such an electrode manufacturing line, accounts for a large portion of the cost of battery manufacturing.

Since 1995, Atmosphere has provided a number of NMP recycling devices to lithium battery manufacturers, and continues to use past experience as a reference to make it more energy-efficient and high-performance. This article is about the latest NMP recycling unit.

2. Features of NMP

NMP is a five-membered cyclic compound containing a nitrogen group and is highly polar and highly soluble. Widely used in coating removers and cleaning agents in the electronics industry. Recently, as an auxiliary material for electrodes in the manufacture of lithium ion batteries, the demand thereof has rapidly increased.

The fire regulations categorize them into the fourth category of third petroleum (water-soluble) and control them as hazardous substances. The Air Pollution Control Act controls it by positioning it as a volatile organic compound (VOC).

Although there is no detailed data on chronic toxicity, the concentration limit in air has not been specified, but according to the latest research, it is toxic to the reproductive system, and it is believed that the restrictions on emissions will be strengthened in the future.

In terms of physical properties, since the boiling point is high and the gasification pressure is low, it is easy to coagulate at a low temperature. In addition, it is easily soluble in water and can be mixed in any ratio. With this property, it can be recovered by means of a washing tower method or by cooling condensation.

3.NMP recycling methods and characteristics

Regarding the recycling of NMP, the following method is generally adopted.

1) Combustion treatment

A method in which NMP-containing exhaust gas is heated at a high temperature to decompose NMP into carbon dioxide and water. Although the catalyst combustion method and the regenerative direct combustion method can control the energy consumption of heating, the expensive NMP solvent is also oxidized and decomposed, and cannot be recycled and reused. In addition, the nitrogen groups contained in the NMP are also oxidized, and the harmful nitrogen oxides produced must also be treated.
