Silicon Carbide is in the same family as Ceramic , but has much better lubrication qualities and is harder.The silicon carbide has advanced property of wear-resistance, anti-corrosive, high heat conductivity & low dilatability and good intensity.  We have following two grades of silicon carbide material:
* Reaction-Bonded Silicon Carbide : The most common silicon carbide used in a mechanical seal.
* Alpha Sintered Silicon Carbide: Perform more better for hard Chemical applications.
Either grade of SIC can usually be re-lapped and polished to be reused.
